Located in the forest between Kriopigi and Polychrono, Mavrobara lake is a place of rare beauty and
of major ecological importance.
Situated 300 m height and 3 km from the main road, the "Turtle Lake" is a monument of nature since 1998
by the Prefecture of Central Macedonia.
This is one of the most fun family activities in Kassandra.
So take your children and head to the pocket size "Turtle Lake"!
The lake shelters two rare species of water turtles in danger of extinction (Emys orbicularis and Mauremys caspica), which find refuge here. Small benches placed at the area, allow you to enjoy conveniently this land full of canes and nenuphars.
It’s an easy three-kilometre walk, or you can rent mountain bikes and take a separate cycling path. Along both tracks, you pass through dense pine forestry and olive groves with 400-year-old trees.
