The olive tree is indigenous in Halkidiki and it has always been contributing to the local economy. The local variety is called "hondroelia" and it's famous for its size and aromas
Ouzo & Tsipouro
Halkidiki has a long history in the production of the traditional Greek distillates -ouzo and tsipouro. Monks at Mount Athos were the first that produced it.
Wine & wineries
The vineyards of Halkidiki are typified by that on the slopes of Mount Meliton, in Sithonia, which is one of the largest single vineyards in Greece.
