You've been here in your dreams...
They say that nowhere in Greece can boast beaches like those of Halkidiki. The region has the perfect
combination of that distinctive Greek light, unspoiled landscapes, colours and fragrances. And the glorious
natural setting is complemented by the rich culinary fare of the region and the living religious traditions
of its people, manifested in a host of feast days and other
ceremonies and rituals.
This is a place where all your senses will come to life, whether on the endless expanses of sand of the fashionable,
cosmopolitan beaches, or in the intimacy of the many secluded bays and coves. The scent of the pine trees and the
salt brine of the sea combine to relax the body and spirit, leaving you at peace to enjoy the grandeur of the
regions famed sunrises and sunsets.

Cultural Center of Ierissos | East Coast
The Cultural Center of Ierissos proudly presents the retrospective exhibition of Efthymios Walsamis. The exhibition is dedicated to the profoundly mystical character of the Holy Mountain, Mount Athos.
Its prohibition on entry women and its enormous religious symbolism and content, especially for Orthodox Christians, prompts you to approach Halkidiki in an entirely different way.
The exhibition takes the visitor to a journey closer to divine showcasing the 1.000 years old monasteries that are scattered across the peninsula and the lush green natural setting of Mount Athos.
Additionally, the visitor can watch a 3D video titled “Travelogue in Mount Athos“ which shows what is like to live in this sacred place.

The Municipality of Sithonia presents photographer Stratos Kalafatis’s “Archipelagos” project at the Art Gallery Apothiki, coastal area of Nikiti.
In this project, the acclaimed photographer has brought together work from two separate ferry boat expeditions around the islands of the Aegean, one in 2006 – whose results were displayed at the Venice Biennale – and another in February 2018. Bringing the two projects together, Kalafatis aims to underscore the changes that time has brought both to the physical world as well as his own style and attitude as a photographer.

6 July – 17 August 2019
Sani Hill | Kassandra
With a refreshed mood and visual identity, this year’s Sani Festival will be celebrating 27 years of successful presence in the cultural events of the country and beyond.
Always pioneer, always open to ideas and suggestions that extend its boundaries and offer a spectacle of high aesthetics and quality. With boldness to characterize it all through the years, it never ceased to take risks, recommending artists and groups that few knew, but got recognized later on, but also to invite legends of the international scene, who accepted the invitation and further established Sani Festival with their support.
JAZZ ON THE HILL: 06.07 SATURDAY
Christian Sands Trio
One of the most distinguished contemporary jazz pianists, Christian Sands will be performing for the first time in Greece as the curtain raiser for this year’s Sani Festival on Saturday 6 July in the Jazz on the Hill section. Although still in his twenties, the American musician is regarded as one of the most talented and popular pianists on the jazz music scene. Over recent years, his tours have taken him across the world, while recently he has done studio work with Christian McBride and Gregory Porter, and has been named as creative ambassador for The Erroll Garner Jazz Project, an institution dedicated to the legendary pianist. Christian Sands is preparing to present at Sani’s medieval tower his new record, titled ‘Facing Dragons’, accompanied by Eric Wheeler on bass and Jerom Jennings on drums, and together they will seduce their audience with the energizing rhythms of the groove.
JAZZ ON THE HILL: 13.07 SATURDAY
Charles Lloyd Sky Trio
featuring Reuben Rogers & Eric Harland
special guests: Maria Farantouri, Takis Farazis, Sokratis Sinopoulos
An important musical encounter will take place, the second Jazz on the Hill concert on Saturday 13 July: Sani Hill will be the meeting point for a jazz legend, the saxophonist Charles Lloyd, his excellent band Sky Trio, with Reuben Rogers on bass and Eric Harland on drums, and the much loved Greek artists, Maria Farantouri, Takis Farazis and Sokratis Sinopoulos. Recipient of 14 awards in a mere 7 years, and appearing for the second time at Sani Hill, Charles Lloyd has been described in the New York Times as one of the most significant representatives of the American jazz scene: ‘Follow the career of Charles Lloyd, and you see a map of great jazz across half a century. His shows full of momentum and intuition, perfectly represent the idea that the best jazz needs to be experienced live.’
CLASSICAL WAVES: 20.07 SATURDAY
The meeting of classical and Cuban music!
Another meeting on Sani Hill on Saturday 20 July, brings us this time classical music to the rhythms of Cuba, in the Classical Waves section. Joachim Horsley, an acclaimed musician, composer and orchestrator in his first and sole performance in Greece, is a leading American pianist, who uses his favourite instrument to take his audiences on new musical adventures on every occasion. Having collaborated with such artists as John Legend, Ben Folds and Michael Bublé, and created the scores for films and tv series, including Disneys’ Big City Greens, Lionsgate’s, Ouija and The Possession, he now unveils his ambitious solo project, which is nothing less than the reformulation of the great works of classical music through the prism of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. In this way he has managed to create a world in which Beethoven’s and Mahler’s symphonies are intertwined with musical elements from Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela, inviting the audience to journey with its soul and, even more, its heart.
FAMILY SPECTACLE: 26.07 FRIDAY & 27.07 SATURDAY
Le Cirque Invisible de Victoria Chaplin et Jean-Baptiste Thierrée
The ‘Invisible Circus’ Performance
Something quite different and incredibly enchanting will be performed over the two days of Friday 26 & Saturday 27 of July. Le Cirque Invisible, on tour continuously since 1990, offers a thrilling spectacle for young and old alike. Its core creators are Jean-Baptiste Thierrée and Victoria Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin and granddaughter of Eugene O’Neill, who combines the talent of her ancestors by spinning stories in her own unique way, that of the art of pantomime and the human circus. The utter daftness of Thierrée, with his eccentric hair, penetrating smile and childish, surrealistic magic tricks are in perfect contrast to the delicate figure of Chaplin and her artful transformations on stage. Replete with clever ideas and carried out with simplicity, this show leads us to new crescendos by the minute. The costume changes and inventiveness of the creators keep the audience continuously enthralled and on tenterhooks, and even the merest blink will mean the loss of an image or experience.
INTERNATIONAL SOUNDS: 03.08 SATURDAY
Gunhild Carling & band
This year’s International Sounds on Saturday 3 August, features Gunhild Carling, the Swedish jazz musician, who will be leaving her unique dynamic mark for the first and only time in Greece. Jazz singer, lyricist and talented musician in her own right, Carling is renowned for her capacity to play many different instruments on stage simultaneously and will be putting on a performance guaranteed to transform the place into one big party. Indeed, that reflects her music persona, which seems to have emerged from boogie dancing of the 60s and the jukebox era.
CLASSICAL WAVES: 07.08 WEDNESDAY
Opera Gala: famous duets
Opera Gala: famous arias & duets
Sophia Kyanidou (soprano), Dimitris Paksoglou (tenor)
ContraTempo Chamber Orchestra conducted by Vladimiros Symeonidis
The Sani Festival has embraced classical music, having become a perfect backdrop for repertory opera. And so, this year on Sani Hill there will be featured famous arias and duets, with the unique soprano Sophia Kyanidou in the role of ‘Her’ and the talented tenor Dimitris Paksoglou in the role of ‘Him’. These are two Greek artists whose careers and artistic presence have taken off on the international scene. The duet is accompanied by the chamber orchestra ContraTempo, a singular musical partnership from Thessaloniki, formed in 2012 on the initiative of conductor Vladimiros Symeonidis, and under the aegis of the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. Before the Hill’s tower, under the August moon, young musicians will be giving a fresh and ground-breaking take on the opera’s classic repertory.
GREEK VARIATIONS: 10.08 SATURDAY
Woodstock – a thirst unfulfilled
Dionysis Savvopoulos, aka Nionios, the Greek leading songwriter, has been inspired to present exclusively for the Sani Festival a musical tribute to Woodstock.
This August will mark the fiftieth anniversary of ’69, when a huge swathe of land near New York was inundated by ‘flower children’ with their Utopian slogans and songs and the participation of some of the biggest rock stars and was to change the music scene worldwide.
This show will feature compositions from that era (Perivoli tou trelou [Madman’s Garden], Balos [Ball], Vromiko psomi [Filthy bread]) together with many emblematic songs from Woodstock, originally sung by Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, the Who, Joan Baez, etc.
On 10 August, Dionysis Savvopoulos will appear on Sani Hill with his songs of ‘a thirst unfulfilled’, surrounded by his orchestra and a small group of young singers for a one-off unforgettable concert under the starry skies.
GREEK VARIATIONS: 17.08 SATURDAY
