Built at the narrowest point of the Athos peninsula, Nea Roda, is the largest of the refugee villages of northern Halkidiki. Nea Roda are known for the great Xerxe’s Canal. The canal was 12 stades in length (about 2.900m) and was wide enough to fit two triremes.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Athos, Komitsa is 4km away, Vulitsa beach is a bit closer, as well as Xiropotami beach (2km) known for a calm waters.
