Starting from Thessaloniki, take the road to Polygyros until you will come to the junction that leads you to Palaiokastro (55km).
If you turn left, you will reach Palaiokastro and then uphill along the winding road through the forest. In less than 10km you come to a junction where the road ahead will take you to Taxiarchis (4km) and Polygyros (12km).
Just before you turn right turn to Taxiarchis (+3km) take a stop at the little rest area, where there is a chapel and some wooden benches for picnics. Follow the path that will take you after 800m to the little Chapel of Agia Paraskevi. At the junction there is also a wooden sign pointing the way to the Panagouda Chapel, a wonderful walk of 360m through the lush forest.
If you choose to turn left, the road will lead you to the villages of Riza and Paleochora, and the beautiful location of Agios Panteleimonas with its little chapel. Straight on, you cross the Mt. Holomontas, where the scent of the trees will awaken your senses. End your road at the very traditional village of Arnea (+16km).
Leaving Taxiarchis behind, we set out on a magical mountain drive. In just 1.5km you can visit the village of Psili Rahi, and after 2km the iconic Chapel of the Prophet Elias, where locals and people for the villages around the area, attend a local festival every July!
Signs on the road will point to mountain trails and paths through the forest. After 9km, you are looking to a unique and lush landscape, ideal for picnics. All along the route, the trees grow close to the road; the forest scenery is magnificent all the year ideal for magnificent excursions. It takes only 16km from Arnea.
