Boat cruise to Mount Athos

A special place in Halkidiki is Mount Athos, home to the unique Orthodox community of monasteries. This is the largest and most important monastic state in the Orthodox East, also named ‘the garden of the Virgin Mary’. According to the tradition, women are not allowed inside Mount Athos however, they have the chance to admire the amazing architecture of the monasteries and the wild beauty of this place by taking a boat cruise around it.

Mount Athos boat cruises depart daily more than once a day from Ouranoupolis port. The boat starts sailing coastal towards the southwestern part of Mount Athos peninsula. In 15 minutes reach the first Russian cloister and after sailing by unique beaches, it arrives in the area of the first monastery, Iera Moni Dochiariou and follows other 7 monasteries, as well as the Holy Mount's central port, Daphni, and finally the cloisters, small villages, where groups of monks live in every house. During the cruise visitors have the chance to admire the untouched nature and the unique architecture of Mount Athos monasteries. There is an audio guide tour in different languages (Greek, English, Russian, Serbian, Polish, Bulgarian and German).

Don’t miss it!

If you are lucky enough, you might see the dolphins swimming alongside with the boat!
