The lake shelters two rare species of water turtles in danger of extinction (Emys orbicularis and Mauremys caspica), which find refuge here. Small benches placed at the area, allow you to enjoy conveniently this land full of canes and nenuphars.

It’s an easy three-kilometre walk, or you can rent mountain bikes and take a separate cycling path. Along both tracks, you pass through dense pine forestry and olive groves with 400-year-old trees.

Worth it to see:

• Follow the route and visit the church of Agia Triada, walk around its yard, listen to nature’s sounds and watch the innumerable plants changing through the seasons.
• Along the route, you can view Mount Olympus in the West and Mount Athos in the East when the weather is clear.
